CLEBURNE WITH 5 SELECTIONS IN ALL-DISTRICT VOTING
The Cleburne Lady Jackets are represented with one superlative selection as freshman goalkeeper Lexie Key earned co-defensive newcomer of the year recognition.
“This was a well-earned accomplishment for Lexie this year,” Cleburne Coach Christie Vick said. “Coming in as a freshman and taking the reigns in goal was a big deal for us. Losing Cindy Villasana last year was a great concern for everyone in our program, but Lexie came in, and with the help of Stefani Vasquez, kept us in some pretty big games this year. She has what it takes to go far in her soccer career and we are lucky to have her for another three years.”
The other superlative awards include: Granbury sophomore Miriam Espinosa, offensive player of the year; Crowley senior Brianna Kamp, midfield player of the year; Crowley freshman Lexi Beck, offensive newcomer of the year; and Burleson Centennial freshman Apolonia Wright, co-defensive newcomer of the year.
In addition to Key’s superlative honor, Cleburne was also recognized with a pair of first- and second-team selections.
Cleburne juniors Wren Blanchette and Stefani Vasquez garnered first-team honors for the Lady Jackets.
“Wren and Stefani are a force to be reckoned with in the midfield,” Vick said. “These two girls create and finish a lot of opportunities that arise on the field. Wren’s talent speaks for itself. She’s one of the best players that Cleburne High School has seen come through the soccer program. She’s an extremely smart player and sees the field in a completely different outlook. For someone her age to read the field, read her opponents and have the pure raw talent she shows is an honor to be around and to watch.
“Stefani is one of those players that will do whatever you ask. I asked her to play almost every position on the field this year, and she played each of those positions like she had played them her whole life. Stefani will outwork any player on the field every single time she steps out there. Her love for the game really shows. Stefani is our go-to girl to create and finish big-time plays.”
Second-team selections for the Lady Jackets included senior Katy Castanuela and junior Isabel Solis.
Garnering first-team honors for Joshua were: Alyssa Stanley, Abril Aguayo (signed with McMurry University), Reagan Easter, Lindsey McDonald and Lauren Freeman. Second-team selections for Joshua were: Baleigh Payne, Kylie Criner, Cassidy Carey and Destiny Keeble (Hill College signee).
First-team honors for Burleson Centennial included: Casie Watson, Kayla Smith and Hannah Walker. Second-team selections for the Lady Spartans were: Cooper Cowan, Maddie Pewitt, Lauren Quintanilla and Ashli Galupi.
Burleson’s Faith Strube, Gracie Spradley and Jordan Walker were first-team selections while Laura Jordan, Adriana Zaragoza and Maycie Massingill were second-team picks for the Lady Elks.
